This year's second graders absolutely loved reading the book "I Ain't Gonna Paint No More" byKaren Beaumont last June! The book is full of great colors, bold brushstrokes, and a silly character who paints everything... even himself! Here are some wonderful self portraits of SJV students, all inspired by the book!
7th grade created self portraits inspired by Pop Art artist, Roy Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein's artwork resembles comic book styled art. His artwork is made up dots (Benday dots) and thick, black outlines. 7th graders really enjoyed the playful look and the colors of his artwork!
For our project, students drew their self portraits on a sheet of paper full of Benday dots. Using markers, the students colored in all of the dots on their artwork! They also included either a think or a thought bubble into their work.
Students did such a fantastic job! Check out some of the student work:
6th graders learned about the incredible artist, Chuck Close, and found inspiration in his style of art for their self portrait project. This was a time consuming project, but the enthusiastic 6th graders did such a phenomenal job!
For our project, students created their self portraits using grid drawing. In each grid box, students added different shapes and symbols. Students used color pencils to color in their portraits.
Kindergarten had a blast creating these large "Big Face" Portraits in art! We had so much fun with our large portraits!
For our portraits, students used paint to fill in our hair and faces. Each student gave their portrait unique faces using markers. At the end of our project, we held our portraits over our faces to surprise our kindergarten teacher! We had so much fun!
Awesome job, Kindergarten! Have a great time at your Moving Up ceremony next week!
Cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes... who doesn't love cupcakes?
For a fun mixed media project, students in the first grade learned all about artists who use food as themes in their art as well as the Pop Art movement. Students loved looking at images of giant ice cream sculptures and paintings that made the desserts look actually frosted!
First graders created their own 2D cupcakes using a variety of materials. For our backgrounds, students created patterns using crayon and watercolor paint. We 'frosted' our cupcakes by creating our own puffy paint using shaving cream, glue, and paint.
These came out so delicious looking! Check out the student work:
5th graders created colorful self portraits using various color pencil and printmaking techniques! They did such a fantastic job in all aspects of this project- they really hit it out of the park!
For our backgrounds, students used recycled paper towel rolls and paint to created a fun and colorful 'print'. Students were encouraged to used abstract colors in their self portraits using colored pencils!
3rd graders created beautiful watercolor backgrounds and traced the contour lines of their faces for their expressive self portraits. They did such a fantastic job with this project... especially on their watercolor backgrounds! Each background is so unique and colorful!
