2nd Grade Oil Pastel Kandinsky Circles

Students in the 2nd grade recently explored the world of Oil Pastels and Wassily Kandinsky. After studying some of his paintings, students loved his use of bright colors and shapes! Here is a painting by Kandinsky that inspired us!

2nd Graders also loved working with oil pastels! They enjoyed getting messy with this art material!

Kindergarten Watercolor Circles

Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky's shapes and colors, Kindergarten used oil pastels and homemade liquid watercolor paints to create their own colorful art!

2nd Grade Oil Pastel Study

Second graders were introduced to oil pastels in a recent art class. They loved how the pastels had bright, vivid colors and were like a soft crayon! In this lesson students learned about different oil pastel techniques such as blending. We also studied colorful and bright art by Wassily Kandinsky.

Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky's famous circle art, each student created their own oil pastel circle on a 6"x 6" square. The squares were hung in a grid pattern in the hallway!

Kindergarten: Jumping into Kandinsky

In Kindergarten this year we are jumping into art by looking at and talking about famous artwork. We will be looking at videos that animate the art, so it literally looks like you art in the work!

For our first project we looked at Wassily Kandinsky's abstract art. Kandinsky loved to paint colors, shapes, and lines. He was inspired by music. We created a tissue paper collage, learned about different types of lines, and added shapes in our artwork all while listening to Beethoven and other classical music... something that inspire different music!

We watched this video and jumped into the painting, an animation of Kandinsky's art.

Our artwork came out so bright, bold, and colorful! Here are some student examples!
