2nd Grade Charlie Harper Inspired Cardinals

Snow has hopefully come to an end during this long winter in WNY! During the snowier months, 2nd graders created winter scenes inspired by illustrator Charlie Harper. Harper is well known for his illustrations of birds, especially Cardinals! 

Students loved the bright and simplistic shapes and lines of Harper's birds. Using white paint and construction paper, 2nd graders created their own Cardinals in a snowy winter landscape!

PreK Flower Collage

To welcome in Spring (hopefully soon) students in PreK studied flowers. After reading "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle and identifying the different parts of a flower, students created their own still life collage using paint, paper, markers, crayons, and glitter!

For our flowers, PreK students magically mixed two of our primary colors (red & blue) to make our own purple paint! We used sponge shapes to create our flowers!

Students also decorated their vases using crayons to create various patterns. Check out these beautiful still life collages:

3rd Grade Van Gogh Sunflowers

Students in the 3rd grade recently learned about Vincent Van Gogh, different types of sunflowers, and collaboration.

Using their unique creativeness, each student designed and created a sunflower. They were able to use a variety of paints the results were fantastic! Students found inspiration in the different types of sunflowers that we learned about in class!

After that, we took our sunflowers and added them to our sunflower vase! Each student has their art represented in this collaborative piece!

This is currently on view outside of Mrs. Brady's classroom! Make sure you check it out during Open House of February 6th!

Art Club Paintings

These beautiful paintings were done in June by current 7th graders from Art Club. Students were inspired by abstract trees and sunsets! 

Be on the lookout for new student work! SJV students are hard at work in art!

Kindergarten "Big Face" Portraits

Kindergarten had a blast creating these large "Big Face" Portraits in art! We had so much fun with our large portraits!

For our portraits, students used paint to fill in our hair and faces. Each student gave their portrait unique faces using markers. At the end of our project, we held our portraits over our faces to surprise our kindergarten teacher! We had so much fun!

1st Grade Groovy Guitars

In a lesson connecting to music class, students learned all about guitars in Art! 1st graders painted their own guitars, assembling their own instruments using paper, buttons, glue, and glitter!

Students did such a fantastic job creating colorful and unique guitars!

Art Club Tint Paintings

The third session of Art Club (grades 6-8) is all about paint! There's a lot of projects we are excited about starting!

For our first project we learned about mixing paint and creating tints of colors. Our paintings were done on canvas board. We even painted a silhouette on the canvas too!

7th Grade Contemporary Pop Art Paintings

7th graders learned about the Pop Art movement during a recent art lesson. They enjoyed the bright uses of color and popular culture imagery by artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein! We also learned about complementary colors! After discussing contemporary popular culture images that we see everyday, students created their own painting inspired by the Pop Art movement.

1st Grade Pointillism Snowmen

Students dove into the world of Pointillism in a fun, dot-filled painting project! Pointillism features paintings composed of tons of tiny dots of paint. First graders created their very own happy snowmen inspired by the movement!

These were hung next to the 2nd grader's Snowy Silhouettes to create a wonderful winter display!

8th Grade Name Paintings

8th graders created personalized name paintings in early October.

Learning about font creation and different painting techniques, students created these wonderful representational paintings!
